Moment of Silence, Other Observances Are Planned in Memory of Stewart
There will be a moment of silence for Payne Stewart at 7:30 a.m. Friday before the first round in the Pacific Bell Senior Classic at Wilshire Country Club.
After the round, John Huffman, pastor of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, will deliver a eulogy at a public memorial service for Stewart on the 18th green.
Both PGA Tour events have altered their playing schedule to eliminate play Friday and make it easier for players to attend a memorial service for Stewart in Orlando, Fla.
The Tour Championship at Houston will be played in 27 holes Thursday and Saturday and 18 holes Sunday. The Southern Farm Bureau Classic at Madison, Miss., will be shortened to 54 holes, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
Stewart, 42, the U.S. Open champion and winner of two other major titles, died along with five others Monday in a private plane crash.
