SoCal Gardening : Sweet Topic

On Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend, Pat Sherman will talk about the sweet peas she’s grown for her Fragrant Garden Nursery, a mail-order source mentioned on Page 2 of Southern California Living on Aug. 12. Her talks at Hortus Nursery in Pasadena will be at 2 p.m. both days. Hortus is located at 284 E. Orange Grove Blvd. ([626] 792-8255). Several Southland nurseries, including Hortus, stock her seed.

Since our article, we’ve heard of another mail-order sweet pea source extraordinaire--Enchanting Sweet Peas, 244 Florence Ave., Sebastopol, CA 95472, (800) 371-0233, https://www.enchantingsweetpeas.com.

Cut-flower grower and Enchanting Sweet Peas owner Glenys Johnson also tried growing many kinds before settling on some of England’s finest varieties for her catalog, which is free. She points out that the English celebrate 300 years of growing sweet peas this year, so they know a thing or two about this favorite flower.
