A 74-year-old Sun Valley man out for a morning bike ride was killed Sunday after being hit by a car, authorities said.

Raymond Joseph Flynn was pedaling north along Glenoaks Boulevard near Nettleton Street around 9:30 a.m. when he was hit by a woman driving a 1994 Ford Escort traveling in the same direction, said Officer Walter Hogue of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

Authorities said Flynn died of massive head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bike was thrown 190 feet, where it hit a southbound car and then a parked car. The victim had already fallen from the bike.

Preliminary reports indicated that the woman, who was allegedly driving 60 mph where the posted speed was 40 mph, may have looked down for a moment just as Flynn swerved into her path, Hogue said.

The woman, Janis Lewis, 43, of Burbank, suffered minor injuries. Hogue said the LAPD is investigating the accident and said charges could be filed.
