Georgia Tech lost running back Joe Burns for the season when he broke his right ankle in the Yellow Jackets’ 41-35 loss at No. 1-ranked Florida State.

Burns, a sophomore, sustained the injury after making a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter.

“It was a heartbreaker,” Coach George O’Leary said. “He took the pitch on the option and turned the corner, but he got caught from behind and his leg buckled as the guy came over the top.

“He’ll be out for the year. Hopefully we can put in for a medical redshirt year because it occurred before the third game.”

Dan Robinson passed for a school-record 452 yards, including four touchdowns, and Hawaii ended the nation’s longest Division I losing streak at 19 with a 31-27 victory over Eastern Illinois at Honolulu.

The victory, however, was tempered by the fact that the Panthers are a Division I-AA school.

Robinson rallied the Rainbows from a 17-10 halftime deficit and the defense stopped two Eastern Illinois drives in the fourth quarter.

Hawaii players raced around the field after the final gun and savored the moment, gathering at midfield and waving to the crowd before heading for the locker room.

The 31 points was Hawaii’s highest total since it scored 34 against Cal State Northridge in the second game of the 1997 season.

The nation’s longest losing streak now belongs to Kent, at 15.
