The PGA of America changed the dates of the Grand Slam of Golf on Tuesday to make sure Tiger Woods could play in the tournament for this year’s major championship winners.

While the PGA accommodated the world’s No. 1 player by moving the Grand Slam back one week to Nov. 23-24, it did no favors for Paul Lawrie.

Forced to choose between the Grand Slam, originally scheduled for Nov. 16-17, and representing his country for the first time in the World Cup, which begins Nov. 18 in Malaysia, Lawrie decided to go to Hawaii for the Grand Slam and compete for a $1-million purse.

The PGA decided to change the dates of the Grand Slam after Woods won the PGA Championship at Medinah, Ill., last month, but committed to play in his first World Cup, with Mark O’Meara.
