Fluker Is Named Chatsworth Athletic Director
Fluke Fluker, who resigned earlier this year as boys’ basketball coach at Chatsworth High, has been selected the school’s athletic director.
Fluker, a former Marine known for his discipline and work ethic, replaces Gary Weissner, who resigned this week in the wake of Chatsworth’s football team having to forfeit its season-opening victory because of an ineligible player.
WOMEN’S PRO VOLLEYBALL
* Annett Buckner-Davis and Jenny Johnson-Jordan of Tarzana are the top-ranked U.S. women’s team on the FIVB pro beach tour.
Buckner-Davis and Johnson-Jordan are second on the international circuit after posting four medal finishes in six events. They trail Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede of Brazil.
Other American teams include Liz Masakayan and Elaine Youngs in fifth place, Lisa Arce and Barbara Fontana in sixth, and Linda Hanley and Nancy Reno in seventh.
BOXING
* Light-heavyweight Victor Ortiz of Simi Valley will headline a card Sept. 28 at the Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas.
Robert Valdez of Oxnard is the promoter.

* Pete Sampras Kids Day is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. today at Sherwood Tennis Club and Spa in Thousand Oaks.
Participants will receive tennis instruction by Sampras, the club’s resident traveling tennis professional, as well as pros former local standouts Bob and Mike Bryan from Camarillo.
