Los Angeles County and the Forest Service deployed more than 200 firefighters, who fought the flames with the aid of four water-dropping helicopters and four air tankers.

Officials said that no property was damaged, but that two inmates assigned to a Los Angeles County fire camp crew sustained injuries. Authorities did not say where the inmates are incarcerated.

One man was cut while using a chain saw to carve through deep brush, Heinan said. Another was overcome by respiratory problems. Heinan said the inmates were being evacuated, and they were being treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not known.

Bouquet Canyon Road was closed in both directions near the the fire, he said.
