El Toro High School students will be barred from parking on some public streets east of the school despite a growing shortage of student parking, the City Council decided Tuesday.

Only residents and their guests will be able to park on Loganberry, Hazelnut and Pewter lanes and on parts of Chaparral and Lantern lanes.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department could start ticketing or towing cars parked on those streets without the proper permit by the beginning of next month, city officials said.

A majority of the 51 homeowners along the wide, well-kept streets petitioned the city last August to ban outsiders from parking there. The residents complained about overcrowding and said students who parked there often drove dangerously, littered and used bad language.
