A 22-year-old driver was ordered Thursday to stand trial on charges that he hit a 7-year-old boy in an Eagle Rock crosswalk, stopped to dislodge the child from his car, and sped away.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Suzanne Person ruled that there is enough evidence for Duc Quy Trinh to stand trial for the death of Alexander Sanna, according to the district attorney’s office.

The child and his brother Anthony were in a marked crosswalk on Yosemite Drive near Avoca Street, walking to school when the boy was struck by a car Feb. 15.

The driver got out and moved Alexander, then drove off, police said. The boy died nearly an hour later during surgery.

The defendant turned himself over to police that evening, when the boy’s mother went on television and pleaded for him to surrender.

Trinh must appear in court April 20 on the vehicular manslaughter charges.
