Two Injury-Time Goals Bring United a Win

Ben Olsen scored in the third minute of injury time to give Washington D.C. United a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Fire on Saturday night at Washington.
Olsen, who set up Jaime Moreno’s tying goal a minute earlier, gathered a centering pass from Marco Etcheverry to beat Chicago goalkeeper Chris Snitko.
The Fire took a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute on Jesse Marsch’s goal off a give-and-go with Ante Razov.
Chicago defender Andrew Lewis was given a red card in the 69th minute for charging into Moreno. There were 33 fouls and five yellow cards in the physical game in the rain-drenched field.
Jeff Maessner gave United (1-2-0) its first lead of the season in the 22nd minute when he blasted a shot into the net past Snitko.
Chicago (1-3-0) tied it in first-half injury time when Hristo Stoitchkov sent an indirect free kick through a wall of defenders and past United goalkeeper Tom Presthus. The goal was Stoitchkov’s third in as many games for the Fire.
Colorado 1, Tampa Bay 0--Midfielder Joey DiGiamarino scored his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute as the injury-plagued Rapids (2-2-0) defeated the Mutiny (2-2-0) in their home opener at Denver.
San Jose 2, New York/New Jersey 0--Goalkeeper Joe Cannon made six saves and defender John Doyle scored two goals on headers to lead the Earthquakes (1-1-1) to victory over the MetroStars (1-2-0) in their home opener.
Kansas City 0, Miami 0--Wizard goalkeeper Tony Meola’s diving deflection of Andy Williams 20-yard shot in the 73rd minute at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., kept the match scoreless as the Fusion (1-0-3) remained in first place in the Eastern Division and the Wizards (2-0-1) kept the heat on the Galaxy in the West.
Dallas 2, New England 1--Jason Kries scored in the 74th minute and Ariel Graziani scored in the first half as the Burn (3-1-0) defeated the Revolution at Dallas to open a three-point lead in the Central Division over Tampa Bay.
