2nd Girl Shot by Man in Riverside Dies
The second of two girls shot in the head Monday by the father of the younger one died Thursday from her injuries, the Riverside County sheriff’s department reported.
Sally Kay Bernard, 6, was pronounced dead shortly before noon at the Riverside County Regional Medical Center, sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Perri Feinstein-Portales said.
Her half-sister, Corrynn Benard, 2, died on Wednesday.
Authorities said both girls were shot by Onesimus P. James, 36, after he allegedly beat and raped the girls’ mother while holding her captive for three days. She escaped from the couple’s home Monday afternoon and called authorities.
James died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after shooting both girls, investigators said.
Those interested in helping the family meet the funeral expenses for the two girls are invited to contact Washington Mutual Bank in Moreno Valley.
