Sledge Replaces Injured Williams

Terrmel Sledge of Granada Hills has been called up to the JetHawks to replace injured outfielder P.J. Williams, who broke a bone in his hand sliding into third base Thursday night.

Sledge, who played at Kennedy High, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, will join the JetHawks today. He started the season at Class A Wisconsin, where he batted .227 with two doubles, two triples and three runs batted in. Sledge also walked three times, stole one base and scored five runs.

Williams, who will be out six to eight weeks, was batting .238 with no extra-base hits, but he did have three walks, five stolen bases and six runs scored.

Jeff Deardorf tripled and scored on a one-out sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to give the Mudville Nine a 3-2 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks on Friday night at the Hangar.

Juan Silvestre hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning for Lancaster (7-2), which had its six-game winning streak broken.
