Beach Cleanup Planned for Earth Day

* The Ventura County chapter of the Surfrider Foundation has scheduled an Earth Day beach cleanup at 9 a.m. Saturday, at Ormond Beach at the end of Perkins Road off Hueneme Road, Oxnard. Parking is free. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Free. Information: 986-4289.

Tennis Tournament to Benefit Interface

* The second annual Pro Tennis Extravaganza, presented by Interface and featuring Bob and Mike Bryan, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, at the Spanish Hills Country Club, 999 Crestview Ave., Camarillo. The event includes breakfast, tennis demonstration, exhibition and a pro clinic. Advance registration is required. Tickets are $65. Ojai Valley Library Friends to Sell Books

* Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation hold an annual book sale April 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Ojai Library, 11 E. Ojai Ave. Most paperbacks will be sold for 50 cents, most hardcover books will go for $2. All proceeds will benefit Ojai Valley libraries. Brigham Young University Singers to Perform

6 Gardens to Be Part of GOP Women’s Tour

* Simi Valley Republican Women Federated hosts its second annual garden tour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 30 at six gardens throughout Simi Valley. The tour features ideas for people to view and implement in their own gardens, an Old West theme with authentic artifacts, a country theme, varieties of roses, vegetables and shrubs, a waterfall, angel statuary, a bridge over a koi pond, and a boutique at one home with handcrafted items and plants for sale. Surfrider Foundation to Hold Benefit

* Ventura County chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will hold an annual benefit from noon to 4 p.m. April 30 at the Banana Belt Restaurant, 326 California St., Ventura. The benefit features a silent auction, a drawing, lunch, live surf tunes, a no-host bar and a brief talk by Ventura City Councilman Brian Brennan. Big Brothers / Big Sisters to Host Golf Event

* Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Ventura will host the Technicolor Corey Pavin Golf Classic, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. May 1 at Las Posas Country Club, 955 Fairway Drive, Camarillo. The tournament marks the 30th anniversary of the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program of Ventura. Entry fee is $375, which includes a round of golf with a shared cart, golf clinic with Corey Pavin, breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktail reception, videos and goodies. Soroptimists to Hold Enchilada Sale

* Soroptimist International holds its spring enchilada sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 at Messiah’s Gourmet Cookies, 1320-B Flynn Road, Camarillo. Enchiladas are only being pre-sold. Workshop for Adult Literacy Tutors

* Conejo Valley Adult Literacy Program offers a free literacy tutor workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 at the Conejo Valley Adult School, Room A, 1025 Old Farm Road, Thousand Oaks. The workshop prepares volunteers to tutor adults in basic literacy skills. St. Columba’s Center Hosts Dinner, Auction

* St. Columba’s Episcopal Church Children’s Learning Center hosts a dinner and silent auction from 4 to 7 p.m. May 7 at 1251 Las Posas Road, Camarillo. The learning center provides a Christian-based environment to learn and promote a sense of well-being, security and trust. The program is for children ages 2 to 6. College Reentry Center Seeks Donations

* Oxnard College’s Reentry Center needs donations, such as children’s clothes, toys or financial support for its education programs, support to needy families during Christmas, Thanksgiving and in the spring with baskets, toys and turkeys. Volunteers to Aid Those in Long-Term Care

* The Ventura County Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program needs volunteers to help ensure that residents in long-term care facilities are guaranteed their rights and are being treated with respect. Many residents are without family, and an ombudsman is their sole link to the outside world and the only objective representative who can speak on their behalf.
