Parolee Is Paying His Debt to Society
* Re “Neighbors Rejoice as Rapist Returns to Jail--For Now,” March 29:
I was dismayed to read about the arrest of convicted rapist Eldon Merle West for alleged parole violation for allegedly threatening one of the protesters who for weeks have been picketing his residence and defacing the property of his ex-wife.
Their actions are nothing but harassment.
West has served his sentence and is still paying his debt to society by being on parole.
It seems to me that the Garden Grove police are in collusion with the protesters in their effort to drive West out of the community.
He and his former wife should have every right to be free of constant harassment from the community.
The community’s actions are more reminiscent of our history where those deemed to be unacceptable were tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.
Let us make certain that we do not return to that.
