Residents Protest Airport Expansion
About 100 Inglewood residents gathered Monday outside City Hall to protest the expansion of Los Angeles International Airport and the leadership of city officials.
Protesters said Inglewood spent federal money designated for soundproofing of residents’ homes to spruce up local businesses. And residents said the constant sound of jets over their homes is unbearable.
Inside City Hall, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) met with Inglewood city leaders to discuss residents’ concerns.
“This is a very complicated issue and there are no easy answers,” Waters said.
Waters added that she would work to get federal funding to help residents soundproof their homes and would work with the mayor to fight airport expansion.
Mayor Randolph Dorn said the city has not misappropriated federal funds.
The city, he said, plans to file a lawsuit against the airport. The lawsuit, he said, will attempt to stop the expansion of the airport and seek funds to help residents soundproof their homes.
