3.0 Quake Shakes Area in South Bay Region
HAWTHORNE —
A mild earthquake measuring magnitude 3.0 shook an area including Hawthorne, Inglewood and El Segundo in southwest Los Angeles County at 12:53 p.m. Tuesday, Caltech seismologists reported.
No damage was reported from the temblor, which was centered two miles northwest of Hawthorne and 10 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles at a depth of 10 miles.
Quakes of such size can be felt locally, but not at great distances from the epicenter.
