Officers Seek Pit Bull That Attacked Girl
Animal control officials are looking for a pit bull that attacked a 10-year-old girl Tuesday morning.
Police were called to the 14700 block of Tyler Street about 10:15 a.m. by paramedics who said they couldn’t reach the injured girl. The dog apparently was blocking paramedics’ access to the child. Police diverted the dog as paramedics grabbed the girl and took her to safety.
The pit bull then turned toward one of the officers. The officer fired four shots from a beanbag gun but missed, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jim Reed said. The dog ran off and hasn’t been found by the city’s Animal Regulation Department.
The girl was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where she was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Neighbors told police the dog also had bitten someone last week. Police couldn’t confirm if the pit bull has an owner or is a stray.
