Woman Dies After Rescue From Water

A Los Angeles woman who was pulled unconscious from the waters off Seal Beach Pier on Saturday evening later died at a hospital, authorities said.

Magdalena Ramos, 50, had gone swimming with her 20-year-old daughter, officials said. Witnesses on the pier saw Ramos struggling about 60 yards from shore after she lost hold of a floatable foam boogie board.

Lifeguards pulled Ramos to shore, where CPR was used in an attempt to revive her. She was taken to Los Alamitos Medical Center, where she died about 9 p.m.

Authorities said there were no strong waves or rip currents in the area. Seal Beach lifeguards reported no other rescues Saturday.
