Councilman Norman Z. Eckenrode has asked for a study session on the rules the city uses to allow temporary signs to be posted on local streets.

Eckenrode said the city tends to remove residents’ signs for garage sales and other events, while leaving up those advertising housing developments.

Code enforcement officials spend a lot of time each weekend taking down an average of 100 garage-sale signs and other placards placed illegally. Code enforcement Director Andrew Ray said 99.9% of the developers’ signs are placed properly, while most of the residents’ signs are not.
