Riordan, Feuer to Write Argument

Mayor Richard Riordan and City Councilman Mike Feuer will write the ballot argument in favor of a proposed $532-million bond measure for new Los Angeles fire stations and animal shelters.

The argument against the bonds will be written by secessionist leader Richard Close, a council panel decided Friday.

The decision by the council’s Rules and Elections Committee ends a disagreement between Feuer and Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski over who would join Riordan in writing the ballot argument for the bond measure.

The dispute was resolved in a way that allows Miscikowski to be one of the eight people to join Riordan and Feuer in signing the ballot argument.

Close, chairman of the secession group Valley VOTE, opposes the bonds, arguing they might undermine the Valley cityhood proposal. He asked to write the argument against the measure in his capacity as president of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn.
