Florida State Still Has Questions

Florida State’s 29-3 victory over Brigham Young on Saturday in its season opener was impressive to many, but it did leave the No. 2 Seminoles with some questions.

Most notably, they’ll be looking for a kicker.

There was no way Florida State easily could replace first-round draft pick Sebastian Janikowski. Playing for the injured Brett Cimorelli, walk-on freshman Matt Munyon missed two field goals and an extra point.

The running game only produced 57 yards, but the overall performance left BYU quarterback Brett Engemann impressed.

“They’re incredible,” Engemann said. “If they don’t win the championship again this year, I’ll be surprised.”

A switch to a pass-oriented offense under new Coach Mike Leach still leaves Texas Tech with plenty of adjusting to do after their 24-3 season-opening victory Saturday over New Mexico.

“We just need to execute,” Leach said. “We are in good position to make more happen than we did. We are several key plays and a few little things from making more things happen.”

In their first game under Leach, sophomore Kliff Kingsbury completed 21 of 47 passes--bettering last year’s single-game highs of 15 completions and 32 attempts--for 186 yards and two touchdowns. The Red Raiders had only 24 rushing attempts.
