The search has ended for Alabama and Arizona State.

Alabama hired Texas Christian’s Dennis Franchione to turn around the Crimson Tide football program on Friday, and later in the day Arizona State reached an agreement with Boise State’s Dirk Koetter.

Arizona State acted quickly to secured Koetter after Franchione took the Alabama job. Koetter reportedly was set to take the opening at Oklahoma State.

Franchione and Alabama Athletic Director Mal Moore agreed to a seven-year deal worth between $1.2 million and $1.4 million a year.

Franchione replaces Mike DuBose, who resigned Nov. 1, but finished the season. Alabama finished 3-8, its worst record in 45 years.

Franchione said he hoped to coach the 13th-ranked Horned Frogs (10-1) through the Dec. 20 Mobile Alabama Bowl. He inherited a 1-10 team at TCU three years ago and has taken the school to bowl games each season.

Koetter’s deal is reportedly five years worth $700,000 a year. He replaces Bruce Snyder, who was fired after nine seasons.

Snyder will coach Arizona State in a bowl game, most likely the Las Vegas Bowl.

Koetter, 41, used an innovative, wide-open offense to guide Boise State to a 25-10 record in three seasons.

Oklahoma State Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips confirmed Koetter’s decision in a news release issued Friday night, saying Koetter called him he had accepted the Sun Devils’ offer.
