Kwanzaa Candles

This candleholder, called a kinara, is displayed during the seven days of Kwanzaa, which begins Tuesday. It’s handmade of oak and walnut by a local carpenter and wood finisher. A candle is lit each night as celebrants review one of the seven principles of the holiday.

Ice Bowls Made Easy

It looks like a professional piece of work, but this clam-shaped ice mold is easy to make. Just place the mold on the form, then put on the frame. Fill it with water and freeze. Australian-based Ice Craft International specializes in reusable ice molds in many sizes and shapes. The clamshell mold is small enough to fit into a conventional freezer. Use the ice clam to serve caviar or shrimp cocktail at New Year’s. Or, use at the buffet table for chilled foods such as butter.
