No. 1 Connecticut Routs Wake Forest

Svetlana Abrosimova scored 16 points and Tamika Williams had four of Connecticut’s 19 steals as the top-ranked Huskies defeated Wake Forest, 107-52, on Friday at Storrs, Conn.

The Huskies (8-0) harassed the Demon Deacons (7-3) from the opening tip, forcing 16 turnovers en route to a 49-25 halftime lead.

Freshman reserve Diana Taurasi had 13 points and five rebounds, and Kennitra Johnson had 12 points and two steals in just 13 minutes.

Eafton Hill led Wake Forest with 11 points.

No. 2 Tennessee 67, No. 15 Texas 59--Tamika Catchings had 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Volunteers past the Longhorns at Austin, Texas.

Catchings scored 11 of her team’s final 17 points. Gwen Jackson added 18 points for the Vols (10-0).

The loss snapped Texas’ winning streak at nine. The Longhorns (11-2) have lost 13 in a row against Tennessee, a streak that dates to 1989. Texas freshman forward Stacy Stephens scored 13 points.

Colorado 98, No. 16 Florida 62--Britt Hartshorn had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Mandy Nightingale added 21 points at Boulder, Colo., as the Buffaloes won their second consecutive game and ended the Gators’ nine-game winning streak.

Colorado made 43 of 49 from the free-throw line, setting a school record for both attempts and makes.

Florida (9-1), which was led by Brandi McCain’s 19 points, shot eight for 14 from the line and scored 21 fewer points than its season average. The loss was Florida’s worst since a 90-50 rout by Purdue on Nov. 26, 1999.

No. 21 Xavier 84, Akron 57--Nicole Levandusky set a school record with 11 steals and added 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists as the Muskateers (8-1) defeated the Zips (2-9) at Akron, Ohio.

Kate Kreager had 16 points and 11 assists to help give coach Melanie Balcomb her 100th victory at Xavier. Cheryl Bowles and Hollie Stephenson each had 12 points for Akron.

No. 23 Oregon 81, UC Santa Barbara 60--Jenny Mowe had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Ducks past the Gauchos at Eugene, Ore.

Oregon (5-3) snapped a three-game losing streak and avenged last season’s 17-point loss to Santa Barbara (4-5). Kayte Christensen led the Gauchos with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
