Richt Could Land Virginia Job
Florida State offensive coordinator Mark Richt has been offered the head coaching position at Virginia, according to the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat.
The report said that Richt has not decided if he will succeed George Welsh, who announced his retirement earlier this month. Welsh coached his final game in the Oahu Bowl, which the Cavaliers lost, 37-14, to Georgia.
Richt reportedly interviewed with Virginia officials Dec. 17 in Charlottesville, Va. He also has been mentioned as a candidate for the same position at Georgia.
Richt has been an assistant at Florida State for 15 seasons and has been the Seminole offensive coordinator since 1994.
Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden has asked Richt to remain with the Seminoles through the Orange Bowl should he accept a position at another school.
