Overnight closures of the Golden State Freeway through Santa Clarita are scheduled to begin Monday and continue intermittently for the next 10 days, Caltrans officials said.

All southbound lanes of the freeway from Magic Mountain Parkway to Valencia Boulevard as well as the southbound Valencia Boulevard onramp will be shut down at 11 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and will reopen at 5 o’clock the following mornings. The onramp will again be closed from 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Jan. 5. Southbound lane closures will also be in effect from midnight to 5 a.m. Jan. 5.

All northbound lanes from McBean Parkway to Valencia Boulevard will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. Jan. 7, 8, 9 and 10, Caltrans said.

Traffic will be diverted onto surface streets. Signs will be posted to direct motorists through the detours, Caltrans project manager Jagdish Patel said.

The closures are part of a 14-month $14.2-million improvement project to widen the Valencia Boulevard bridge over the freeway and to modify the Valencia Boulevard/I-5 interchange. Completion is expected in winter 2001-02, officials said.
