Wounded Suspect Leads Police on Chase
A 32-year-old man shot by an apartment manager after a domestic disturbance Thursday in Gardena led police on a chase, surrendering when they fired on his car, police said.
Gardena police said that Osife Boyce left his estranged wife’s apartment in the 2800 block of 141st Place about 9 a.m. after the building manager shot him twice in the leg. Police did not reveal a motive for the shooting, and the manager was not held.
Gardena officers responding to a family dispute call arrived in time to see Boyce drive away in a blue Oldsmobile.
After Boyce refused to stop for police, one officer tapped the suspect’s bumper, forcing his car into a spin near the corner of Vermont Avenue and Artesia Boulevard.
Boyce got out of the car, but “he was very uncooperative and made a reaching motion toward the interior of his vehicle,” Det. Mark Wilson said. A Gardena officer fired one round from his semiautomatic rifle.
The shot shattered Boyce’s windshield, and he surrendered, Wilson said.
