Police Investigating Death of Boy, 3

The death of a 3-year-old boy, whom family members said died as the result of a fall early Monday morning, is being investigated by the abused-child unit of the Los Angeles Police Department, officials said.

“We got the call at about 12:30 a.m. from the 7100 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue,” said LAPD spokesman Eduardo Funes. “The boy was living with his grandmother and four other children.”

Funes said the grandmother told investigators the boy had hit his head when he fell. Investigators are trying to determine if the fall was accidental or the result of foul play, he said.

The identity of the boy and grandmother were not released. “The Los Angeles coroner’s office is involved in the investigation to determine the cause of death,” Funes said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday evening.
