Williams Gives Quartz Hill Golden Share

Mychael Williams dribbled the length of the court for a reverse layup with 3.2 seconds left in overtime to lift Quartz Hill High to 74-73 victory over Lancaster and a share of its second consecutive Golden League boys’ basketball title Thursday night at Lancaster.

Teddy Myers of Lancaster (15-10, 7-3 in league play) missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Trevor Marley of Lancaster sank two free throws with 36 seconds in overtime to give the Eagles a 72-69 lead, but Tony Johnson tied the game with a three-pointer with 16 seconds left.

Ryan Marley of Lancaster made the first of two free throws to put the Eagles up, 73-72, with six seconds left. Josh Porter of Quartz Hill (18-7, 8-2) rebounded the missed free throw and passed to Williams, who went the distance for the winning basket.

Joe Dluzak tipped in a missed layup by Anthony Gamboa to give Lancaster a 59-57 lead with 25 seconds left in regulation.

Myers made one free throw with six seconds left but his second rimmed out to Kevin Johnson, who drove downcourt and made a three-pointer to force overtime.

Tony Johnson scored 35 points, 19 in the second quarter, and his brother, Kevin, added 22, including five three-point shots, for the Rebels.

Dluzak scored the Eagles’ first nine points and finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Wright added 14 points and Myers scored seven of his 13 points in overtime for Lancaster.

Tony Johnson’s basket capped a 7-2 run that gave the Rebels a 35-30 halftime lead.

Trevor Marley’s 15-foot jumper capped a 7-0 run that pulled Lancaster even, 51-51, with 5:38 remaining in regulation.
