North Hollywood Survives Scare, 48-47
Grant High School’s Ryan Logan led all scorers with 21 points but missed a jumper in the final seconds, and North Hollywood held on for a 48-47 victory in a Sunset Six League boys’ basketball game Friday at North Hollywood.
Logan and Ken Hauser of North Hollywood (18-7, 6-4 in league) were the only players to score in double figures.
Hauser finished with 10 points and David Danipour and William Kim each added nine.
Poly 60, Verdugo Hills 59--Guard Sef Vargas scored at the buzzer to give the Parrots a Sunset Six League victory at Verdugo Hills.
Vargas had 16 points and Victor Chacon added 18 points for the Parrots (8-16, 3-7).
Kevin Baird had 24 points and 25 rebounds for the Dons (9-16, 3-7.
Granada Hills 65, Birmingham 56--Midwin Francis had 12 points, 17 rebounds and four steals, and Walter Burch came off the bench to score 13 points for Granada Hills (14-11, 6-4) in a West Valley League game at Birmingham.
Canoga Park 66, Hollywood 61--Cecil Brown and Dante Witherspoon each scored 17 points and the Hunters (11-13, 4-6) won a Sunset Six League game at Canoga Park.
Brown had seven assists and teammate Jammie Harris had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four assists.
Simi Valley 85, Royal 64--Branduinn Fullove made 11 of 12 shots en route to 27 points for the Pioneers (24-2, 12-0) in a Marmonte League victory at Simi Valley.
The victory, Simi Valley’s 25th in a row in league play, wrapped up the Pioneers’ second consecutive league title.
Buena 55, Dos Pueblos 46--Cody Murphy scored six points and Dan Panico had four assists in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs won a third-place playoff game in the Channel League at Buena.
Ryan Cobos had 13 points for Buena (10-17). Murphy and Jason Plum each finished with 10.
Dos Pueblos is 11-15.
Channel Islands 56, Rio Mesa 44--Manny Berrelleza made six three-point baskets and finished with 30 points for the Raiders (13-13), who won a Pacific View League playoff game for third place at Channel Islands.
Berrelleza scored 12 of his points in the second quarter. Brian Long had seven points and five assists for the Raiders.
Thousand Oaks 93, Newbury Park 70--Kyle Kegley had 25 points with eight rebounds and the host Lancers (16-9, 8-4) clinched second place in the Marmonte League.
Tim Chevalier added 16 points for Thousand Oaks.
Westlake 69, Agoura 65--Dan Dehner scored six of Westlake’s 13 points in overtime and finished with 24 as the Warriors (13-12, 3-9) won a Marmonte League game at Westlake.
