Keeping Rice Goes Against the Grain

Share

Bill Plaschke [Feb. 9] sells us a bill of goods when he says Glen Rice isn’t cooking because he’s on the bench. I’ve seen Glen stand around, late in the fourth, waiting for Kobe Bryant to give him the ball. That’s like waiting for the IRS to offer to adjust your taxes because they made a mistake.

Rice wants little green rectangles, not the triangle.

Some thoughts on the Lakers:

1. I agree with Shaq; the trade rumors affected Eddie Jones last year, and if Rice is going to be traded, do it, don’t let it affect him and the team by allowing it to linger endlessly.

2. The Lakers are strong at shooting guard, small forward and center, and weak at point guard and power forward. If they can upgrade these two positions, even if it means losing Rice, they should do it.

3. I don’t remember hearing Byron Scott whining about shots, and I seem to recall he was the Lakers’ fourth option, even the year he led them in scoring.

4. Eddie, sorry about everything. Please come home.
