UCI Women Breeze Past Fullerton
Shannon Anders and Jeanine Horton each scored 17 points as UC Irvine defeated Cal State Fullerton, 79-58, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Friday at Titan gym.
Anders made six of 10 from the field and four of six from three-point range and Horton made six of nine shots from the field for the Anteaters (11-10, 4-5). Fullerton (2-19, 1-8) got 16 points and 15 rebounds from Erin Whiteside.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
UC San Diego 72, Chapman 49--Polly Neves had 18 points for host Chapman (16-6), which was outscored, 44-23, in the second half.
In nonconference women’s softball:
Hope International 5-10, Occidental 0-2 (5, mercy)--Leslie Graves, Kim Bento and Sarah Yarbrough each had four hits in the doubleheader for host Hope International (4-0).
In the Arizona State softball tournament:
CS Fullerton 8, Utah 0 (5, mercy)--Kristy Osborne was three for three, scored twice, and had one run batted in for CS Fullerton (8-0). The Titans won their earlier game against Tennessee-Chattanooga, 9-1.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Vanguard 9, CS Los Angeles 0--Olli Helminen won, 6-1, 6-0, and won in doubles with Stefan Johansson, 8-2, for Vanguard (1-0). Johansson won in singles, 6-0, 6-0.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 8, CS Northridge 1--Maureen Diaz won 6-1, 6-3, and Jonni Seymour, 6-0, 6-1, for host UC Irvine.
