Two men forced their way into a Newhall home Saturday afternoon and beat and robbed the couple who live there, authorities said.

The incident began at 12:45 p.m. when a woman answered a knock at the door of her home in the 24500 block of Sagecrest Circle, said Lt. Larry Gump of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita station.

“As soon as [the woman] opened the door, they forced their way in,” Gump said.

The men grabbed the 50-year-old woman, who was alone in the house, and demanded cash and valuables, Gump said. They beat her on the head with a “blunt instrument” and ransacked the house. Moments later, the woman’s 60-year-old boyfriend arrived and he also was beaten.

The assailants were described as black, in their 20s, both about 6 feet tall and wearing blue shirts, investigators said.

The victims were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. The man, who suffered a cut on his forehead and an injured rib, was treated and released, said nursing supervisor Rose Morelli. The woman, whose face was cut, was listed in good condition Saturday afternoon. She will be transferred to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland Hills for plastic surgery, Morelli said.

Police declined to release the victims’ names.

The attackers fled in a late-model white Nissan, taking an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables, Gump said. Investigators said they do not think the couple knew their assailants.
