Woman Fatally Shot; Son Is Questioned

A 70-year-old woman was shot to death Tuesday, and detectives were questioning her son as a suspect, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

At about 10 a.m., Ramon Banuelos, who lives in a trailer behind his mother’s house, called 911 and said his infant was in need of medical attention.

When paramedics arrived at the 400 block of Hurstview Avenue, they determined the infant was fine, but Banuelos’ mother, Teresa Banuelos, was “suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body,” Deputy Mark Bailey said.

She died later at a hospital.

“Detectives detained the victim’s son, who they believe is responsible for the death,” Bailey said.

A revolver was found near the body, but detectives don’t have a motive for the shooting and don’t know why the son called 911, Bailey said.
