Kariya to Miss Brother Act II

Share

Kariya vs. Kariya Part II will not take place tonight.

Paul Kariya of the Ducks will miss his second consecutive game because of a bruised right foot. Steve Kariya will be in the lineup for the Vancouver Canucks, returning after scoring 11 goals and 16 points during a 10-game stint in the minors.

The teams tied, 2-2, in the first NHL meeting between the Kariya brothers Dec. 8 in Anaheim.

The Ducks will make do with left wing Marty McInnis skating in Paul Kariya’s spot on their top line tonight. McInnis, sidelined 11 games because of a groin injury, joined center Steve Rucchin and right wing Teemu Selanne at practice Tuesday.

“Marty looks very probable for [tonight], unless he falls out of bed [Tuesday night],” Coach Craig Hartsburg said, smiling.

Ladislav Kohn, who filled in for Kariya in Monday’s 4-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues, will rejoin center Antti Aalto and winger Mike Leclerc on the third line.

Hartsburg will keep his second line of Ted Donato, Matt Cullen and Kip Miller intact.

Backup goalie Dominic Roussel will start in place of Guy Hebert tonight.

“I have really liked Dom’s goaltending the last two games he’s played for us,” said Hartsburg, referring to Monday and a 4-3 victory Feb. 14 against the Chicago Blackhawks. “We’re going to give Guy a couple more workdays this week.”

Hebert, who has given up 22 goals in five starts since the All-Star break, has been working with goalie coach Francois Allaire to sharpen his play for the stretch run.
