A man fleeing in a stolen car was shot and wounded after a high-speed chase and gun battle with Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in a Pasadena neighborhood Saturday evening, authorities said.

The man, identified as Adam Robert Robertson, 22, fired a handgun numerous times after causing a six-car collision along the 1870 block of Summit Avenue, a north Pasadena residential neighborhood, said Deputy Elisabeth Sachs.

Robertson was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition, Sachs said. No deputies were hurt and one person involved in the multi-car crashes suffered minor injuries.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. when two deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call involving Robertson and his girlfriend at their Altadena home.

Deputies were told Robertson had stolen the girlfriend’s car and was armed. On their way to the house, the deputies saw the car and Robertson fled, Sachs said.

The pursuit wound through residential neighborhoods at speeds up to 70 mph, according to California Highway Patrol representative Mark Garrett.

On Summit Avenue, Robertson’s vehicle crashed head-on into an oncoming car, but no one was injured.

That collision, however, set off a chain reaction that involved three other cars and an ice cream truck. One of the occupants of a parked car was injured.

When Robertson’s car stopped, he leaped from the driver’s seat and fired at the pursuing officers.

The two deputies fired back, striking Robertson once in the upper torso. Sachs declined to identify the deputies. Roberston will be charged with vehicle theft, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder of a police officer and felony hit and run, Sachs said.
