El-Amin, Madsen Are on Wooden List
Khalid El-Amin of Connecticut, Mark Madsen of Stanford and Kenyon Martin of Cincinnati are among 30 candidates for the John R. Wooden Award as the nation’s top college basketball player.
Madsen, Hanno Mottola of Utah and Mateen Cleaves of Michigan State didn’t play the minimum number of games in the first half of the season to qualify because of injuries, but they were given alternate status because the selection committee felt their impact may be measurable the rest of the season.
Some of the other candidates include A.J. Guyton of Indiana, Ed Cota of North Carolina, Courtney Alexander of Fresno State and Shane Battier of Duke.
The Wooden Award will be presented on April 7 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
