FOUNTAIN VALLEY
A gas leak on Monday forced the closure of Ellis Avenue from Brookhurst to Bushard streets for about almost an hour.
At 10 a.m. 38 Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa firefighters arrived on the scene at Brookhurst Street and Ellis Avenue.
A contractor, Dennis M. Mulligan Plumbers Inc., had been working in the parking lot when a backhoe struck an underground gas line. The Gas Co. responded and contained the leak, and the area was cleared at 10:54 a.m.
