Brown’s Big Finish Carries St. Francis Past Loyola, 61-58

Jeff Brown scored nine of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, and St. Francis High rallied from an eight-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Loyola, 61-58, in a Mission League opener Tuesday night at St. Francis.
Michael John and Aaron Sims each scored 12 points for the Golden Knights (7-6).
Matt Llewellyn scored 15 points for Loyola.
Littlerock 68, Valencia 60--Gene Myvett scored 18 points for the Lobos in a nonleague victory at Littlerock.
Center Brandon White had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots, and Jose Zavala had 13 points for Littlerock (11-5).
Zavala’s third three-pointer of the fourth quarter gave the Lobos a 64-57 lead with 2:30 to play.
Royce Minor scored 17 points for Valencia.
Palmdale 55, Hart 50--The Falcons built a 13-point first-half lead, but allowed the Indians to close to within one point before pulling away in the fourth quarter of a nonleague game at Palmdale.
Eric Brown had 22 points and four assists and Travis Richie added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Falcons (5-10), who made only four baskets in the second half.
Liam Waters scored 25 points for Hart.
Glendale 71, Keppel 63--Eddie Karibyan had 22 points and five steals for the Dynamiters (8-7) in a nonleague victory at Keppel.
Montclair Prep 68, Kilpatrick 49--Josiah Johnson had 23 points, including 14 in the second quarter, and 15 rebounds to spark host Montclair Prep (9-5) in a nonleague game.
Crenshaw transfer Terrence Manuel had 15 points for Kilpatrick (5-8), which trailed, 43-19, at halftime.
Derek Daniels, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, scored his 11 points in the fourth quarter. Andre Freeman had six points, six assists and five steals for the Mounties.
Antelope Valley 51, Paraclete 50--Terrell White made two free throws with seven seconds left for Antelope Valley (4-8) in a nonleague game at Paraclete.
Robbie Fockaert had an opportunity to tie the game for the Spirits (3-11) with 2.9 seconds remaining but missed the second of two free throws.
Canyon 68, Quartz Hill 54--Matt Nelsen had 28 points and six assists, and Brian Waite added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Cowboys (8-7), who jumped to a 21-4 lead after one quarter and coasted to a nonleague victory at Canyon.
Jaren Corpening scored 20 points for the Rebels (11-5).
Rio Mesa 54, Santa Paula 40--David Kanongata’a scored seven of his 15 points and John McBride scored six of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for host Rio Mesa in a nonleague game.
McBride grabbed nine rebounds and Kanongata’a had seven rebounds for the Spartans (6-6).
Ryan Frutos scored 12 points for the Cardinals (4-10).
Camarillo 53, Oak Park 42--Jared Jungwirth had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the Scorpions rallied from a five-point halftime deficit for a nonleague victory at Camarillo.
Ian Caldwell scored 15 points for Camarillo (8-8), which made 14 of 15 free throws.
Village Christian 71, Whitney 39--Clint Hamblin had 22 points, including four three-point baskets, and grabbed seven rebounds for host Village Christian (6-7) in a nonleague game.
Flintridge Prep 58, Rio Hondo Prep 43--Devin Brown had 16 points and Charlie Winters added 10 for host Flintridge Prep (7-5) in a Prep League opener.
Buckley 42, Oakwood 27--The Griffins jumped to a 28-14 halftime lead and coasted to a Liberty League victory at Oakwood.
Colin Ward-Henniger had 12 points and seven rebounds, David Gale had seven assists and six steals, and Simon Leonov had 10 rebounds for Buckley (7-2, 1-0).
Providence 69, Viewpoint 46--Shant Bekmezian scored 21 points for Providence (10-2, 2-0) in a Liberty League game at Viewpoint.
Grace Brethren 83, L.A. Lutheran 28--Jackson Beauchamp scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half, and Ryan Shaffer made four three-point baskets in second quarter for the Lancers in a Heritage League opener at L.A. Lutheran.
Shaffer finished with 20 points for Grace Brethren (6-5).
