Man Killed, 3 Hurt in 2-Car Collision
A head-on collision killed one man and injured three other people, authorities said Thursday.
Eladio M. Galindez, 54, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead shortly after the 7:30 p.m. Wednesday crash that closed California 134 near 185th Street in the Leona Valley area for about four hours, said Officer Rosa Ray, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.
The Llano man, driving a 1979 Chevrolet east, began swerving erratically, lost control and then drove into the westbound lane, a witness told the CHP.
The driver of the first oncoming car saw the Chevrolet approaching and swerved off the road to avoid it, Ray said. But the Chevrolet rammed into the second oncoming car--a 1999 Nissan.
The Nissan’s driver, David Jeng, was wearing a seat belt but suffered major injuries, Ray said. The 20-year-old Irvine man was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was listed in critical condition, according to paramedics.
Jeng’s two passengers, Daniel Liu, 22, of Irvine, and Rebecca Jeng, 21, of Cerritos, were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where they were both in fair but stable condition.
