*Dan Galvanoni of Moorpark College was selected men’s basketball player of the week in the Western State Conference.
Jackie Rhetta of Ventura and Marilyn Dubon of Glendale were selected women’s co-players of the week.
* Robert Patton, a 1977 graduate of Birmingham High and writer for the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel until his death in 1998 from brain cancer, was honored last weekend when the press room at the new American Airlines Arena in Miami was named after him.
Patton covered the Miami Heat for 10 years.
VOLLEYBALL
* Cam Dickson, a freshman on the men’s team at Cal State Northridge, is an academic nonqualifier and will not play this season.
Dickson, a 6-foot-4 middle blocker, was an All-Southern Section selection at Royal High.
FOOTBALL
* Quarterback Michael Frost of Glendale College has committed to Temple.
BASEBALL
* Chad Spencer, a pitcher from Quartz Hill High and Antelope Valley College, has accepted a scholarship to The Master’s College.
