He Teaches a Lesson in Baseball Psych 101

I love it when the subject of race drifts into the field of vision of Bill Plaschke and he decides to zero in with his staggering intellect on this one [“Game Is Really Off Its Rocker,” Jan. 7]. Words fail me here. This is the same guy who once said of Tiger Woods: “He is us.” I am still trying to figure that one out.

Bill can’t understand why white guys dress in one corner of the locker room, black guys in another corner and the Latinos in a third corner. This is the exact level of puzzlement his mind operates on.

The reason, Bill, is this: They feel more comfortable with people of their own race. Why is this so hard to understand? Racism is just another word for reality. It’s here to stay. I accept it and get on with my life.

I agree with Bill Plaschke when he says major league baseball needs psychological treatment. However, we agree for far different reasons.

Plaschke believes major league baseball is a racist organization. I believe major league baseball is a totalitarian organization. I agree what Rocker said was stupid, but he had every right to say it!

Major league baseball exhibits the ultimate in hypocrisy. Look how tolerant it is of drug use, assaults and other violations of the law committed by players. Does the name Steve Howe strike a familiar note? Major league baseball tolerates law breakers but is intolerant of a player exercising his right of free speech! John Rocker did not break the law!

Gosh, Commissioner, we’ve heard this before. In early 1999, Ted Turner publicly insulted Catholics, the Pope in particular, and all pro-lifers. In March 1999, Bud Selig reported that the matter was “under advisement.”

As recently as Jan. 13, according to the commissioner’s office, the matter is still under advisement.

Sounds as if the problem might be the hot air in Atlanta.

Easy solution for two problems: Send Rocker to Cuba and the Braves sign the kid Gonzalez.
