Purse, Cash Taken in Home Break-In
A west Ventura woman was awakened early Sunday by a burglar wearing a stocking over his head who fled with the woman’s purse and cell phone.
Police said the victim was awakened about 5:50 a.m. by an intruder using a penlight to see his way around her apartment in the 300 block of Paseo De Playa.
Upon seeing the prowler, the woman screamed and slammed her bedroom door shut, said Ventura Police Sgt. Larry White.
The man then fled the apartment with the phone and the purse, which police said contained a small amount of cash.
White said the man, who police suspect is a transient, apparently broke the lock on a sliding glass door to gain entry to the apartment.
Police unsuccessfully searched the area for the prowler, who was described as standing about 5 feet 10.
