6 1/2-Hour Standoff Ends With Arrest
A domestic dispute escalated into a 6 1/2-hour standoff early Thursday after a barricaded man allegedly displayed a rifle, authorities said. The man allegedly shot at police before surrendering to officers. No one was injured.
Officers found Frank Martinez, 52, inside his home in the 16800 block of Pineridge Drive at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Officer Joe Buscaino of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officers were responding to a domestic violence call.
Moments later, Martinez’s wife came out with a rifle and remained with police, Buscaino said. Martinez then allegedly armed himself with a .223-caliber semiautomatic rifle and shot once at officers.
Martinez surrendered about 5 a.m. when a police SWAT team shot tear gas into the house, police said.
Police recovered two rifles and determined Martinez was under the influence of alcohol, Buscaino said.
Martinez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and held at the Van Nuys jail on $1 million bail, authorities said. He is to be arraigned Monday at San Fernando Municipal Court.
