Two people died in separate freeway accidents Friday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

A 33-year-old man was killed when his pickup truck overturned and was struck by a school bus on the Hollywood Freeway in Universal City, CHP Officer Frank Sansone said.

The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Sansone said the man was northbound in the exit lane for Lankershim Boulevard about 9 p.m. when he suddenly veered left to rejoin northbound traffic and the truck overturned.

The bus, which had no passengers, hit the driver’s side of the overturned truck, pushing it down the Lankershim offramp, where it came to rest on the right shoulder, he said.

The Lankershim offramp was closed for more than seven hours, Sansone said.

In Newhall, a 44-year-old Thousand Oaks woman died after her car rear-ended another car and struck the center divider on the Antelope Freeway, the CHP said.

The woman was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where she died of her injuries. Her name was unavailable, authorities said.

The woman was northbound in a Honda Accord about 7:30 p.m. on the freeway just east of the Golden State Freeway when she began swerving between lanes for unknown reasons, Sansone said.

The Honda rear-ended a Chevrolet Geo, whose driver was uninjured, Sansone said. It then struck the center divider and came to rest on the slow lane, just south of San Fernando Road.
