Kings’ Anderson Starting to Fit In

Nick Anderson offered more evidence Tuesday night that he’s growing comfortable in his first year with the Sacramento Kings after 10 seasons in Orlando.

Anderson scored a season-high 29 points and the Kings kicked off their longest trip in 13 years with a 110-99 victory over the Hornets at Charlotte, N.C.

Anderson, who came in averaging less than 10 points, made 11 of 16 field-goal attempts and all four free throws.

“I see him getting into a groove and playing more to his standards,” said teammate Chris Webber, who scored 30 points.

Charlotte’s Eddie Jones missed 11 of his first 13 field-goal attempts and wound up with 11 points on five-for-18 shooting.

Minnesota 92, Houston 84--Kevin Garnett scored 27 points as the Timberwolves ended the Rockets’ win streak at six in Houston.

Indiana 93, Phoenix 87--The Pacers continue to play well in their new home, beating the Suns for their 14th consecutive victory at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis after three losses in a row on the road.

Miami 115, Boston 89--The Heat took a 25-point lead by scoring 16 consecutive points as the Celtics missed 13 consecutive shots in the second quarter, then coasted to victory at Miami.

Cleveland 116, Detroit 107--Brevin Knight scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and four in overtime as the Cavaliers beat the Pistons at Cleveland.

Atlanta 96, Chicago 89--Isaiah Rider scored 28 points and Dikembe Mutombo had 14 points and 23 rebounds for the Hawks at Atlanta.

Dallas 117, Golden State 103--Michael Finley scored 30 points, 22 in the first half, as the Mavericks completed a season sweep of the Warriors with a victory at Dallas.

NBA Notes

Dennis Rodman could be a Dallas Maverick by Monday. He told owner Mark Cuban he’s interested in signing for the rest of the season but his calendar is booked through the Super Bowl. If Rodman arrives Monday, he could debut Tuesday at home against Philadelphia. . . . Miami’s Dan Majerle is expected to be sidelined six weeks because of a stress fracture in his left leg, revealed by an MRI. . . . The Houston Rockets announced they will retire Clyde Drexler’s No. 22 jersey Feb. 3. . . . The New York Knick-Washington Wizard game at Washington was postponed because of the snow storm that blanketed the East Coast. The game was rescheduled for March 8.
