Past Performances to Play Part in Choosing Goalie

After meeting with goalie consultant Don Edwards and King goalies Stephane Fiset and Jamie Storr, Coach Andy Murray has a schedule for playing the two for the rest of the season.

But it’s written on paper, not in stone.

“It’s based on who’s been successful against whom and other factors,” Murray said. “But we’re prepared to do what we think we need to do to win.”

Edwards’ input was to stress the need to give both goalies ice time, particularly amid the extra demands travel places on a West Coast team.

It was a fluke that former King center Yanic Perreault returned to the lineup Saturday night for Toronto against his old mates.

“With the All-Star break coming up, I didn’t want to be out two more weeks,” said Perreault, who missed 23 games because of a broken forearm that was the result of a slash by Pittsburgh goalie Tom Barrasso.

Barrasso was suspended for four games because of the incident.

Perreault got almost two months of rehabilitation.

“I’ve ridden the bike from here to L.A.,” he said, laughing.
