Pilot Forced to Make Emergency Landing on Road
A private plane low on fuel landed safely Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Sierra Highway and Crown Valley Road, just north of the Antelope Valley Freeway, authorities said.
“He made a safe landing, got some more fuel and took off again,” said Diana Jorbert of the Federal Aviation Administration’s operation office near Los Angeles International Airport.
Jorbert said there was also a passenger in the single-engine Cessna 150. Neither she nor the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which went to the scene, had the names of the people in the airplane.
The Cessna 150, a two-seater with a fuel capacity of about 26 gallons, is one of the most popular single-engine airplanes among private pilots. More than 23,000 of the aircraft were produced from 1958 to 1977.
Jorbert said the FAA office in Van Nuys will be investigating the incident.
