Brush Fire Burns 300 Acres
A brush fire started by fireworks in the foothills above Glendora was largely under control Friday night, but not before engulfing 300 acres and spreading into U.S. Forest Service territory, fire officials reported.
Six firefighters were injured in the two-alarm blaze--four suffering from heat and exhaustion, one with back injuries and another suffering an allergic reaction to a bee sting, said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Brian Jordan.
About 350 county and federal firefighters were aided by six water-dropping helicopters and four fixed-wing aircraft, Jordan said.
The fire was 50% contained by 8:45 p.m., more than five hours after it was reported above Morgan Ranch Road, Jordan said.
Officials were investigating to find who was using the fireworks.
The blaze burned uphill about a mile from any homes, fed by heavy brush and low grass known as flash fuel.
