To Be Read, Wally Will Sing the Blues

TIMES STAFF WRITER

It seems Wally George will do just about anything to sell his book--even sing the blues.

The loudmouthed, right-wing host of KDOC-TV’s syndicated “Hot Seat” will appear from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Malone’s Irish Tavern, 604 E. Dyer Road, Santa Ana.

The night’s theme?

“Wally George Sings the Blues with the Bourgeois Blues Band.”

Anyone who’s read George’s recently published memoir, “Wally George: The Father of Combat TV,” (Clarendon House; $14.95) knows that in addition to his 50-year career in radio and television George has another credit in his resume: professional singer.

That’s right, the flamboyant George can do more with his mouth than rant and rave.

In the early ‘60s, he was the rhythm guitarist and lead singer for Wally George and His Hollywood Twisters at the Peppermint Lounge West.

Of course, George will have copies of his book on hand to sell Thursday night, and half of all proceeds, according to George’s publisher Jim Riordan, will go to abused children’s charities.

If you can’t get enough of “Wal-ly,” check out “True Hollywood Stories,” which will air a one-hour biography of the Garden Grove resident on the E! Entertainment Channel at 10 p.m. Aug. 20. Watch for a scene shot last fall of George during a book signing at B. Dalton Booksellers in the Laguna Hills Mall.
